Bom Jesus de Pirapora / Pirapora do Bom Jesus

Since 1920, the population of Santo Amaro have gathered to start what they call 'Romaria dos Cavaleiros' (Horsemen's Pilgrimage) to Bom Jesus de Pirapora (the right name should be Pirapora do Bom Jesus) in an act of Faith in which it is joined by populations of São José de Itapecirica da Serra, Salto de Itú, São Bernardo do Campo, Taboão da Serra and other near-by towns. It all harks back to a legend that says a miracolous image of Our Good Jesus was found at River Tietê behind those far-away ridges in the 19th century.
